I am a Veteran of the United States Navy, married, with 4 children, 4 grandchildren (with one more on the way), and Ozzie (my companion in therapy).  Born in California, I came to Iowa 25+ years ago.  I spent much of my younger years, after the Navy, working at Iowas only Nuclear Power Plant, as well as working in construction (no I don’t glow).  In addition, I spent 10+ years as a volunteer fire fighter and EMT.  I am a graduate of Kirkwood Community College (AA Gen Ed), Drake University (BA in Psychology), and University of Iowa (Masters in Social Work).  I am a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), as well as a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW).  I am trained/use several therapy modalities, such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, MI, (and more).  In most cases, I use a blended style of therapy, tailored towards my clients needs. On days I am able to transport Ozzie, and/or upon request, he will be in session for your benefit.  He does however understand if you would rather he not be there, or have allergies.  Upfront, I will let you know that I have not always been a therapist, as I spent much time doing self research and sitting in the chair, I hope to see you in (wink).  Because of life and some of my challenges, I came to understand what was the meaning of Dual Diagnosis, and the benefits of EMDR therapy.  My past experience has led me through working with the homeless population, addictions, severe mental health, in school services. If you have any further questions about me or would like to set up a time to meet click here.I thoroughly enjoy my work with clients ages 12 through adults, and have built a practice dedicated to helping those clients reach their personal potential and navigate life’s challenges. My approach is client-centered, down-to-earth, compassionate and practical.
